Extending Pickup Wire

What's Hot

I have a humbucker that has 4 conductor shielded wire, not braided or anything just standard Seymour Duncan JB.
I need to extend it, is it as simple as ordering more wire, soldering them together, heat shrinking the individual wires and then fitting it? Do I need to do anything with the shielding? I was thinking of wrapping all 4 wires in copper tape and then heat shrinking all them too so the outers are joined and then its like one continuous cable.

Does that make sense? it does in my head

You could get this if you're worried about shielding

Don't think fender stuff is shielded? The wax cloth "upgrade"

For the distance involved, you don't have to go mad with the shielding - just joining the five separate wires will work fine. If you don't need the full 4-conductor wiring, simply connect a piece of single-core cable at that point and insulate the coil split connection.

Last time I needed to extend a run of 4-con + shield pickup output cable, I disguised the joins at a push-pull pot.

Thank you, I intend to use the coil split wires so will be extending all of the wires

You could optionally use a push-connector.
