funeral photography

Since photographing funerals seems to be on the increase in the UK, a friend came up with the idea of having coffin lids made of sturdy glass, allowing the deceased to be easily photographed.
As a carpenter, he will design the coffins and source the glass, while I will attend the service, photographing as appropriate.
Will it work as an idea?
Remains to be seen.

eh? what? people have funerals photographed? as in how weddings are photographed? And they want photos of the deceased?

I had no idea funeral photography was a thing.

I'm wondering if it prolongs the grieving process in an unnatural manner.

Wouldn't a glass lid cause lots of issues with reflections?

Common early use of photography wasn't it - probably the only photo you ever appeared in was when you were dead. When I googled it there was an article about somebody trying to do it as a business ( not the glass lid thing)and after several years still not a successful venture. As it is a major event and an opportunity to see family and friends you might have lost touch with and everyone is in their Sunday best maybe a few group photos would be in order.

it's not not a thing though. Beyond the glass lid joke there is funeral photography, it goes back to Victorian times ( as in my above link). Funerals are photographed, to some extent, by the press, state funerals are shown on TV and some families will get the camcorder out for a funeral. If, for example, the Wearies had a family funeral and wanted to share some of it with relatives in Canada then getting a camera out would be the way to do it.
