    Couple of pics of the Suzuki GS7.11 I built and owned

    It's a '79 GS750 frame, with a GS1000 engine fitted, bored to 1085cc with Wiseco pistons, Mikuni Flatslide carbs, Kent cams, ported head, Dyna ignition, one off stainless exhaust etc  It puts out 114bhp at the back wheel.

    The rolling chassis is upgraded with GSXR forks, Tokico 4-pot calipers, Metmachex braced swinging arm, Koni shocks.

    The guy riding it in the pic is a journalist for Classic Mechanics who did an article on it.

    Gave up biking some years ago and scared to get another one as I know I'll fall off and hurt myself and being self employed that would be a disaster.

    However here is the last one I had

    @midiglitch, I used to have a CBR 600RR back in the day in that red/black combo as well. One of the best handling bikes of the time and perfect for track days. Lydden Hill is a great first track day circuit and I did my first one there as well back in the day. I truly understand what you mean when you say that you've got the bug, after you've done the first one you just want to do track days all the time.

    Brands is a good track but take it easy on your first few laps. The temptation is to absolutely gun it down the home straight and loads of guys come into paddock hill bend WAY too fast and the camber and drop is a lot steeper then you think so build up to finding the right speed there for yourself slowly is my one piece of advice. Seen a few riders lose it there as they end up to hard on the brakes

    For me it actually took the shine off riding on the road because it feels so slow after track days as you could never ride your road to 60% of how you ride on the track. I did very little road riding after doing my first track day which probably is a good thing as like you say, you've got no idiot drivers, potholes, diesel or kerbs to contend with on a track day.

    Take it easy on your first few laps at Brands. Seen lots of guys gun it far too hard on the home straight (obviously very tempting to do) and the camber and elevation change at paddock hill catches a lot of people out as you don't really see it till your nearly on top of the hill !! Keep an eye for the braking boards and don't ignore them even though you think you still have time to brake.

  • I currently don't ride (used to ride a scooter when I was 16) but I currently have GAS/MAS for a Honda Magna 250, sat on one when it was 15 and instantly fell in love. Perfect seat height, looks awesome, and quite rare in the UK. I'm thinking of getting one mainly as a cheap commuter for work. No pics at present but Google is your friend.

    Now that I've done one i've got a much better idea of how to pace myself through the day and work up to speed session by session.

    I'm just looking at going -1 front and +2 back for a bit more oomph lower down the revs.  I need to replace the chain anyway so seems like a good opportunity to try it.  Lose some top end, but thats hardly an issue.. I mean how often do you ride at 160+ mph anyway?!  Not at brands or lydden thats for sure!

    One of the IT technicians at work is a former biker, has owned everything under the sun at some point or other.  Keeps telling me not to get a ducati, but I will, one day.
    After all, its the posters of ducati's on my wall as a boy that started all of this!  Got to be do done!
