Can anyone comment on the difference between Black Cat and Hot Cat?

Hot Cat has an extra gain stage so that it can be pushed into distortion. I think they overdrive earlier too.

The combo doesn't feel any heavier than my old Maz 18 did, I would say 50 something pounds sounds about right, it's still a one handed lift you just wouldn't want to carry it far.

Completely agree with this. I have a Black Cat 30R 1x12. They weigh 64lbs according to the Badcat site. I can carry it easy enough but long distances or stairs are inconvenient. As far the K master feature, here is a video on it http://www.badcatamps.com/blog/raw-and-unscripted-breakdown-of-the-new-k-master-feature/

I saw that clip earlier in the week...that's a fantastic tone from a Les Paul.

I had a Black Cat for a while. Theyre a lovely clean amp. Not a rock amp in my book but great for almost everything else. The head was a similar weight to a 100w Marshall head. Very, very loud for 30w.

biggest decision I had was 15 or 30w. As mentioned, they are startlingly loud but do have half power and defeatable master volumes for each channel

can't agree they're not a rock amp. Huge sounding with a decent overdrive

They're a great classic rock amp, if you want high gain look else where. I'd rather use one of these for classic rock stuff than a Marshall these days.

Agreed.  Hot Cat if you want all out distortion.

Check out the newly released Classic Deluxe...one of the sexiest amps I've seen for a long while!

Hmm. I dunno. There are a billion great boutique 6v6 amps out there from Carr, Two Rock and many others. Hard to imagine how BadCat would improve on them. They have a great niche in the Voxy/Matchless el84 market IMHO

My thought exactly! Yet as @johnperry says, Badcat are not renowned for Fender tones. They do make great amps however. Coda had one about a year ago but I couldn't justify a road trip from the north west.

Occurs to me it's only fair to point out, having criticised BadCat's customer service earlier in the thread, that after i got this email about the new amp last night i replied to it, got an answer right back from their marketing chief and then, within 15 minutes, an answer from the boss to the various questions i had put to them a few weeks ago about my Black Cat 15, along with an apology for having overlooked my previous emails. So fair play, and thanks to @dougcoda for his efforts trying to get some info from them.

I had the chance to spend an hour with my Black Cat today and have it cranked with my '55 Junior.

Hells Teeth, what a sound it is! It was dragging harmonics from the guitar that I'd not heard before and that 3D swirl...I'd forgotten how much I'd missed it!

    Such an inspiring amp!
