I couldn't help notice Gary kemp's pedal board last night. Strymons galore I.e. Möbius, timeline and a Big Sky. Sounded really good. Oh yeah he was playing through 2x Lazy J80's. Lucky man :)

  • Did I miss something on TV or are they playing a tour?

I'll wager he has a few Pete Cornish ones too. He's a very underrated Guitarist/Songwriter with or without the bling and Spandau Ballet released some quality music back in the day.

    :-)

Much as every fibre of my being tells me I should dislike them, I've seen both of the Kemp brothers interviewed on TV - as well as hearing them on the radio, promoting their new film and I have to say, they've come across really well. So much so, that I want to see the film....

They played the Royal Albert Hall last night. I didn't think I'd enjoy it but they are really great live :) They'll be touring soon I'm sure

Yes I got the impression they were a bit like that. However, Gary Kemp is quite a sharp cookie compared to the rest of the band IMO. Albeit an egotistical maniac :)

just googling and he had a Cornish rack back in the 80's. I remember Gary playing a Westone Rainbow that I was very jealous of. SB also responsible for my favourite ever line of lyric - ' why do I find it hard to write the next line?'

He utterly epitomised the 80s chorus hi gain sound. Listen to the live version of Gold if you don't believe me.....him and John Turnbull (Talk Talk) literally defined a modded strat into a fuck off rack filled with slick chorus and delay EDIT John Turnbull also defined the worst mullet ever seen at the Montreaux Jazz festival.

  • Thanks @hotpickups

glad you liked it, did they do "How Many Lies"?, one of my faves, especially with that Uber Flanged-Chorused Guitar Tone near the end of the track. In fact I love all the tones he uses in that track.

Nice Guitar that Westone, he had that many different guitars on their TV performances, I'm not sure if I've spotted him with it. As for the Cornish stuff, I just saw his name on the client list, it was a lucky guess as I assume he might have had some of that, who wouldn't in his shoes, Lol.

http://i21.servimg.com/u/f21/14/91/63/13/martin11.jpg That's from the True video, I think that's a Westone Rainbow which was roughly top of the Westone range at the time. There were a couple of different versions I think. http://www.westoneguitars.net/wp-content/uploads/2011/04/Rainbow-I-1.jpg

  • Nice Guitars @EricTheWeary

I take it the Brown one is yours? I can imagine there must be a few unloved Westones around, which is a shame really.

I prefer the style of those horns to the more rounded ones on Gibson ES-335 for example.

Were these a sort of Mid range price bracket Guitar back in the 80's? I'll have a nosey at this too.

    That Spandau Ballet vid, Lol.

Gary "You'll have to have the Guitar, Martin, Cos I've got to do Piano"

Martin "Right, who's going to hold the Bass?"

    Gary "Oh, Fuck it"

There's one just like it in the shop I work for. At least I think it is - I haven't played it or looked at it closely, I just saw it on the wall this week. It's not on the website yet. I'll post a link when it is.

  • They were on TV tonight, I couldn't see much but Gary looked like had an OCD and Micro Pog on his board - amongst others.

I used to have one of those white Rainbow's. I now have this one that I got around 1992. For some reason I swapped the pickups back then and popped on a couple of switches. Oh well!
