Due to quite a serious back problem I am having to stop cycling altogether and, with great reluctance, I am selling my Menet bike.  In over 50 years of road cycling this is my favourite bike bar none.

This bike was ordered by the Menet cycle shop in Belgium, a well-respected high-end cycle shop, for their own Menet Cycling Team in 1996 and built to their own specification.  Menet ordered the bike from renowned frame builders Martelly Cycles in Belgium (http://www.martelly.be).  Martelly started a cycle workshop in 1914 and expanded to building hand-made frames in the 1930s.  They are astill building handmade frames today.

This frame and forks are made from Columbus Neuron tubing produced only in the 1990s.  The tubing is elliptical on the inside of the tube and round on the outside. The rear seat stays and chain stays are chromed as is the fork.  The fork crown and seatpost lugs are pantographed “M” and the bottom bracket lug is pantographed “Menet”.  The top tube also has a fitting for a racing number.  There are two sets of bottle bosses.

The frame measures 57cm centre to top and the top tube is 56cm.

The bike has an 8-speed Dura Ace groupset (in the main) which is generally referred to as 7410.  It is in excellent condition and works perfectly.  It is made up of:

·        7410 crankset with original caps and the narrow 103 bottom bracket.  The bottom bracket is not Dura Ace but is sealed and is in perfect condition.  Cranks are 172.5mm.  Rings are 39 and 53.

·        7402 8SIS rear derailleur

·        7410 bolt-on front derailleur

·        7400 8-speed ‘brifters’

·        7403 brake set with Dura Ace pads

·        7410 headset

·        7400 8SIS hubs

Other components:

·        Cinelli Nerve bars

·        Stem is chromed Columbus steel, Cinelli Pinnochio (which still has its red cap!)

·        The wheels are built with Dura Ace hubs on Mavic Reflex SUP rims and butted spokes

·        Saddle is a San Marco Rolls

·        Seatpost is a fluted ITM (27.2)

·        Halo allen key QR replacement skewers

·        Pedals are Shimano PD A550

·        Seatpost frame bolt is Campag (because it fitted so well!)

·        Tyres are Vittoria Rubino Pro (puncture resistant) 700x23C

·        I will include a Nitto ‘65’ 27.2 chromed seatpost and also the original Easton 7410 seatpost that has suffered a break to one                side of the clamp.  Just needs a new clamp.

·        The cassette is a Shimano HG-70 (12-21) which was chosen as it is, bizarrely, lighter than the Dura Ace equivalent

·        A set of SKS Raceblade Pro clip on mudguards for tyres under 25c; these are just about as good as you can get5

I have a brand new and boxed NOS Dura Ace 8-speed cassette which is available under separate negotiation as it was so expensive!

Reduced to £500

Thanks @beed84, it really is a lovely bike and it is totally effortless to ride.  It'll be sorely missed.

Just checked the link and it took me straight in.  However, I tried to get onto Gumtree this afternoon via Chrome and it wouldn't have it but straight in with Edge, weird isn't it.  Thanks for the nod, I'll keep my eye on it.

Most of the bikes I see today, most of which are very nice, seem to be quite plain whereas back in the 90s when this was made they were still knocking them out with loads of chrome and masses of colour!  :)

    Lovely bike!

I still can't get the Imgur link to work on my laptop or tablet, not sure if it is the wrong link or an Imgur issue?

OK, sorry that the link still isn't working and many thanks to @richh for helping out.  I have given up and so have embedded a fair few photos in the thread.  Can supply more of any specific area of the bike.

Bargain. FWIW, if you haven’t already done so, it might be worth advertising this on Retro Bike:

Thanks!   :)   Yeah, that's the problem with bikes, the frame has to fit.  I think a 57/56 is as near 'average' as you can get given that it is good fit for someone who is 5'9" to 5'11".  I'm just over 5'10" and it fits like a glove.
