Wonderful comedian.  I saw him in London in the late 1980s - managed to be unbelievably rude without offending anyone.  One of the funniest people ever.  Les Patterson was a creation of genius.

RIP.

Great innings but still a shame we’ve lost him . Very clever guy - you summed it up in that he was very rude without getting nasty or personal with it

Sir Les's book 'The Traveller's Tool' is absolutely side-splitting but utterly politically incorrect.  And all the funnier for being so.

Strangely enough I was watching the Andertons interview with Geoff Whitehorn yesterday and Geoff was talking about playing guitar on a Dame Edna party album and what a lovely guy Barry was.
Barry/Edna/Les huge figures in comedy for a long time, always on the edge of chaos and the Dame Edna character was brilliant for pricking pomposity.

    RIP.

Genuinely a giant of comedy. Witty, thoughtful, sharp, barbed, subtly offensively hilarious but without actually causing genuine offence.
RIP Barry, you genius. You'll be missed.

I would have sworn he had already passed away. I feel I even remember people talking about it.

    Anyway, RIP.

Aww jeez, I saw a thing on social media earlier that said he was poorly but still with us, I hadn’t realised he’d actually passed on.

Wonderfully funny bloke, in all his various guises. RIP possum.

What a great innings he had. Looking back at my childhood "Dame Edna" was on UK TV in the 70s. I was too young to get the humour then. I then remember Sir Les appearing on "The Tube" with "12 inches of Les" . Barry Humphries would have been in his 50's then..such a cultured clever person that defied the personas played.

He was amazing at conjuring entertainment out of nothing, so quick witted and intelligent. One of those giants of comedy the like of which we don’t see any more.

I shall never forget Dame Edna saying to oh so posh Joan Bakewell - maybe on Parkinson, maybe not - that she looked as if she needed something warm inside her.    Cue the show falling apart.

Some of my favourites from BH in various guises.

“He was a really generous bloke. He’d give you his arsehole and shit through his ribs”

As Dame Edna, to Jayne Seymour
”ah dear Jayne, you’re so lovely. Tell us the secret of a successful marriage darling. After all you’ve been successfully married 4 times”.

And as Edna to Jilly Goulden, the wine expert.
“I don’t understand much about the etiquette of wine tasting. So tell us Jilly, do you spit or swallow?”
