For twelve months, Suggs attended the same school as me. (Admittedly, before I started there.) Baggy Trousers wasn't about that school but it could have been. At one morning assembly in 1976, the stuffy old headmaster railed against kipper ties, platform shoes and "balloon" trousers.*

* He meant flares.

When I was at big boys school there was still a rule that drainpipe uniform trousers were banned 'cos of the Ted association. Flares were just coming in so everyone had their keks let out by their mums. He had to ban them too eventually and lift the ban on drainpipes. Must have been hell keeping up with kid's fashion.
