One would imagine I'm the only person who thinks Planet Caravan is Black Sabboth's best song

You're probably not the only one.  It's a good song, but I don't think it's their best.

So many great tracks. My favourites are Symptom of the Universe and Snowblind.

I love Planet Caravan to bits though, it has melancholy powers.

    This one goes to eleven

I like the quirky tracks on the early Sabboth albums like Planot Caravon and Fluff, even Changos which doesn’t usually get much love. They are part of the dynamics of the albums so the skull crushing riff stuff is all the more skull crushing. When the other singers came in that all got a bit lost and sadly didn't return even when they did 13 with Ozzy.

Childron of the Grove for me I think.

    Although Snuwbland is quite good.

Hale in the Sky is a good song too.

And don't forget NOB of the first albom.

This thread is top class. Just spilled my tea at Wor Pögs.

    Azzy Asbourne would love it.

Is this all written in a Brummie accent?

    :)

I love it too - picking a single favourite Sabbath song is hard because they're actually more varied than usually given credit for... possibly Sabbath Bloody Sabbath - but the original Black Sabbath is still immense. I still find it incredible that Iommi literally invented metal as we know it with the first three notes (and the rest of it is great too).

Oh!  That's possibly my favourite too.  I've never understood why it's not better known.

  • Paranoid was the 1st rock album that I bought; I was 14 at the time and always skipped this song.  Much later in life, I can appreciate it, but I don't think it's their best.
Don't let your mind post toastee - like a lot of my friends did!

I've always loved National Acrobat and killing is a close second, The wonderful thing is my now 14yr old daughter decided to become a Goth 18 months ago and take up bass guitar, she now loves Sabbath and these are two of her favourites too. She played a school concert last month and while all the other kids did 3 minute show songs , Ed Sheeran, etc (and all very talented too) she did the full 6and a half minutes or so of Killing yourself to Live and nailed it- had tears in my eyes! Wish I could pick it up as well as she has.

Forgot to say I’ve never liked Planet Caravan and always skipped it.
