Quite interested in the Octophant - why does it have an extra knob? All the ones I've seen online only have three?

It was modded by shoe pedals (who designed the circuit) so that the boost stage has a volume control and so that the boost is selected by a footswitch, basically making it a two gain stage fuzz. The octave is now on the toggle switch.
So before you had one fuzz sound plus the octave when playing live now you can have stage one set for a light fuzz and kick on stage two for something a bit more raunchy.

OK, so the bloom has left the building. Still the octophant to go, very few of these in the UK.

Would it be possible/easy to undo the mod and have the Octave moved back to the footswitch?

Yes, its just a case of swapping the 2 wires that run to the footswitch with the 2 that run to the toggle.
