Struggling to get decent sounds with my dunlop mini silicon fuzz face with my Luke III HSS ..
Really farty , spluttering - only improves when I turn down guitar vol but then I lose intensity of fuzz .
Google research points to buffered low impedance signal screwing with fuzz units in general - anyone found a suitable workaround or alternative pedal to suggest ?

The big muff doesn't seem to mind active pickups or buffers, In fact Pete Cornishs g2 is a muff with an input buffer and output buffer added. I'd try one out, it works for me and I have an emg equipped guitar too

Guitar systems Fuzztool. One of the models has a switch for use with active pickups.

I’m so bored I might as well be listening to Pink Floyd

    Muffs are usually dandy.

I played an active bass into one for years.

The Suhr Rufus also claims to be buffer friendly

If you want a genuine Fuzz Face the MXR 108 has a buffer switch.

As a general rule I quite lile what a buffrt does to a fuzz, not a fuzz face though, it kist doesnt work.

Yeah, you're pretty much stuck with muffs (or anything else that's a distortion deep down). Most fuzzez don't like anything buffered before them so active pickups are a no go.

Which is just as well, because muffs kick arse.

Muff is the way to go...but i also though it was to do with germanium diods vs silicone diods...???

Nah, they're just used for clipping in muffs.

You're possibly thinking Si verses Ge transistors. You're in the same boat with either with old fuzzes and buffers. Ge's just are more awkward when it comes to temperature causing the gain to vary and that a lot of them are PNP which cause all sorts of fun with PSUs because they run -9v.

Yes...transistors...they just look like shortened version of the diode name!
(You get wisdom...i should get a slap)

So its just muffs in general then.
