Using Avid PATCH samples with a DAW

Well I have invested in Sibelius for my daughter for composing stuff for her GCSEs/A-Levels/Degree, now I've been playing around with it myself and the default set of samples are pretty good (orchestral/Jazz/choir).
Now what I'd love to do is use these samples in my own DAW (Reaper), or as live instruments via a keyboard.
Are these PATCH files playable only via Sibelius or is there a VSTi that can use these samples?
