When I owned a mandolin it was the Stagg M50-E electro-acoustic. At £73 new 12 years ago it didn't have any competition below £600. I would expect there should be second-hand versions available.

It’s one of those instruments in my experience that a bit of money needs spent, Eastman are decent and if you buy 2nd hand not too pricey.  Aftermarket pickup is the way I would go personally.  K@K

I’ll second this. As a rule of thumb you need to spend twice as much on a mandolin as you would on a guitar of a similar quality. At least at the low end.

I have this fella, has been more or less ornamental for the last couple of years. A bit less bling and a little more build for the money. Sounds rather nice plugged in too.

Thanks for recommendations so far. I think the ideal scenario would be a mid-range A style mando, but am open to anything suggested. Will reply any DM’s now and if you have anything similar then let me know.
