Did a bunch of riffs with various Kemper bass profiles, mostly the ones from Stymphalian Productions; Ampeg SVT and the B7K distortion pedal.

They're not bad for a quick tit around. Haven't properly dialed them in for my bass yet. BTW, these are his freebie profiles on the Rig Exchange, not his commercial pack.

  • Seems pretty cool, so you're finding Kemper bass profiles quite useful then?  This was one of my biggest fears with the Kemper - just because of how different the major bass designs can sound.  I was worried that if someone dialled in a patch with a Jazz bass it wound't work too well with a Stingray for example.  I think there's more difference between bass designs that get used for the rock/metal (which is pretty much all solid designs) than there are the between bridge humbuckers, which are what most people dailling in rock tones will be using.

this would be really useful !!!! as I'm not a bass player when I record demo's with bass I use software plugins to run the bass amps, which with software drums and a little bit of other software makes it quite dependent on software.

A Kemper would allow me to move that to a pre-digitised bass sound, and even allow me to do the tracking guitars without having to mike up my amp or use a direct in crappy sound.

I'm really starting to think a kemper for some home recording would make life easier and get across ideas better.

Best bass tone I ever achieved was with an Ampeg SVT profile on a Kemper. Sounded huge. Surprised these units aren't more popular with Bass players in general.

that's good to hear as I use an Ampeg SVT from the IK multimedia Ampeg amp sim plugin.

IIRC they improved the firmware to allow blended tones around the start of the year, specifically to improve the experience for bassists.

I'm loving the ability to just download a rig, tweak the gain, and hit record. It's so much more immediate than other modellers that I've used, and that immediacy is what I've been lacking when it comes to digital.

Drew - have you got any of the ampeg or Fender bass heads on your Kemper ?

I've got some from that SinMix guy, but I'm still waiting to find the bass tone that truly blows my brain away. Bass tone tends to be the one thing that benefits from a lot of parallel processing, and most profiles are just one thing - too many bloody Sansamp profiles out there if you ask me.

If anyone has a line on the BEST bass profiles, I'd be happy to hear them!

The Bass Whisperer (Ed Friedland) announced on his YT channel that he's in the process of doing a full Kemper review.

I'm looking forward to it - his demos are really good.

I'll have a look around for the Ampeg ones, as the bass profiles, especially ampeg ones are something that is a big importance to me in the kemper setup, as I want to remove guitar and bass processing to Kemper, which means the bass must be better than the ampeg plugin in pro-tools
