Make sure you select one on which the actual lightning connector has multiple terminals rather than one block terminal. I think the correct terminology is '8-pin'

I just use a blob of Blu-Tack to stick the actual lightning connector to a book or something like that placed on a table in front of me - that stabilises the microphone just fine

My USB audio interfaces all are plug and play with iOS on phones and tablets. 

It is neat with the video camera as you get great audio as it will use the external mic.  

Just need an interface that has its own power or you have a lightning/Apple adaptor with USB and power input ports.

Cheers, been looking into this a bit more and I  think something like theTC helicon mobile interface and a half decent condenser mic might be a good way to go for video. 

Added bonus I could mic up my acoustics through the jbl eon compact.

I've been looking at this and it sounds interesting and gets pretty good reviews. 

Bob Milner certainly makes it work. 

It is pricey though and apparently there are some issues with connecting to GarageBand via phone/ipad. 

It's the top contender though if I go down the usb route.
Also seriously considering a Presonus audiobox interface with a Rode NT1a  and just be done with it. 

Either way I need to make a decision pronto, been driving myself bonkers with reviews and YouTube demo's.
