Who's got their own web page?

axisusaxisus Frets: 28397
I fancy knocking up a web page and filling it up with my stuff: guitar projects I've done, music, video links, writing etc. I realise that it will only ever be seen by 3 people including me, but I still fancy doing it.

Anyone else done such a thing? Can it be done for little or zero cost?

If you have a page, give us a link and let us know how you did it!

I made mine up quite a while back using freewebs.

It looks a bit arky now but does the job and is completely free....

It's about Omega Speedmasters so don't feel compelled to look!

for simple and free there is blogger, wordpress, instagram, tumblr, things like that
they are all plugged into search functions, so you should be able to link in to similar interest pages

I use weebly, the free version lets you post "players" from sites like SoundCloud and Bandcamp and links to whatever.  It's great for photos and allows for extra "pages", my site is http://dulcetjones.weebly.com/

    I've got / done a few.

But the Kawai Guitars site is probably the most relevant to here!

Having trouble posting images here?  This might help.

I used wix.com..I can't say it was simple, but once you get going it's ok, seems that you have to pay of you want all the options.

Read up a bit on HTTP and did mine in a text editor (which probably shows). Ran it for a while on my free hosting web space, then when that became too small shifted it onto my machine under my desk at home. Still free at this point, but it will require a static IP or DynDNS setting up (which I think might cost these days).

Finally bit the bullet this year and stuck it on some hosting. Doesn't cost that much to be fair, but it was getting to be a hassle given the shitness of my ADSL link...

If you don't want it to be slow and covered with ads it's worth paying for some proper hosting.

I used squarespace to knock up a site for a band-in-progress (Aney Ash):

     www.aneyash.com

Very quick and easy (and note mine is work in progress so don't judge too much!). Less than 60 quid for a year including the domain registration and the templates are great, easy setup, does blogs, soundcloud, social media integration, easy UI...

  • Oddly enough, I've built tons of the things but I've never had my own.

Guess I don't really have enough to say to make it worthwhile.

I'm about to be forced to do one that I'm not wanting to do.

As part of my course there's a whole section on social media so we will be making websites which are personalised. I am someone who dislikes social media (for the most part) and putting lots of personal stuff online. So that will be fun.

I've also got a web address (two actually) that I've registered but not put anything on

Hi, I use Cargo for my portfolio - I customise it a lot. Great platform, great support for $60 a year. The more you know about CSS etc. the more you can do. But it works great with knowing anything. http://cargocollective.com/

    another one I did http://fabulalondon.com/

    There's loads of templates etc.

For projects I just use wordpress - WIP here... http://bcrichbichrefinish.wordpress.com/

I have a page with a blog attaching to it. Www.raymondlin.co.uk (also .net is mine) the blog is embedded into the site /blog. The main site is flash and HTML mixed, blog is a Wordpress.

For documenting things, a wordpress site would be fine, once all the layout is set up it is easy to update.  You can always update it on your Facebook feed to get more audience.  You can even start a Fan Page on Facebook too.
