How old is the phone?

I got mine replaced (new phone) for free by taking it into an apple shop.

It's a known weakness...

It's a French grey import off ebay

Not very old couple of months max, and I'm not under contract to anyone.

They're coming to my place of work tomorrow - will report back

You can check the serial number on apples support site to see if it's eligible for the free repair programme. There's also a separate programme for a free battery replacement.

If you enable assistive touch you can lock the phone from the touch screen. Mines been busy for a year and just got around to sorting it!

Blow that ! I'm in the City, and it would mean schlepping to Regent Street Apple Store (which is always bedlam) in my lunch hour

£35 is cheaper than 2 return taxi rides !
