Soooo, the rather excellent Rob at Pro Audio Service has relocated to Herefordshire so you lucky folk now have an excellent tech to use.

Unfortunately that's not much good to me here in Leicestershire and given there's been lots of places shut up shop recently, the search of the great techs thread is likely to throw a spanner in the works too.

Anyone have any newish recommendations for decent techs in the above regions please? (Leics/Notts/Derbys/Warwicks) ta

  • Oh, has he actually gone now? - I knew it was imminent. What a bugger. Depends what you've got? - Howard Smith will do Fender amps if it's relatively straight forward.

Yeah he's closed pending relocation unfortunately :( defo bad news for us!

I've heard mixed reviews about Howard but might be an option TBF. Thanks mate.

he's never done an amp for me, but guitar-wise he's spot on so I'd be reasonably confident.

  • I've had @RiftAmps service and repair stuff for me before, I'd highly recommend him, I didn't find it more expensive than using a mere mortal either (it also means you can try and have a nose around the workshop).

Yeah, Chris's work and rep speaks for itself really, I'll drop them a line. Thanks

Dave Hunter in Calverton, Notts. Excellent amp tech knows his stuff (is on here, but not often I think @DJH83004 ) Not sure he is taking on new clients though, he has a lot of work on.

Dave Ball in Keyworth, Notts. Can fix just about anything electronic but deals mostly with amplification (he fixed a cooked motherboard from my HP DesignJet A0 plotter many moons ago).

Second this. Bit of a round trip for me but I always try to take my amps to Dave. Really nice guy and knows his stuff.

I think Dave Hunter has stopped doing guitar amps and is concentrating on hifi repairs. Shame as I really liked him.
