I knew it'd be the 8100. They are undergoing something of a revival after years of being ignored. I've always suspected they were heavily EQed on recordings, though.

There's a decent video on YT of someone running the preamp out through the power amp of a Diezel and he got it to sound great. (If you like that sort of thing.)
