Sorted: Omnidirectional dynamic mic
What's Hot
Hi all,
I fancy trying an omni dynamic for drum recording. Something like the Sennheiser MD21, or reporters-style mic like the Audio-Technica AT804/8004 or ElectroVoice 635A. Or something else I don't know exists! Sub £100 ideally, but if there's not much out there and you can make a case for something else then feel free to try!
Not in a rush, just something I want to try in the future.
Comments
The bass response will be much less so keep that in mind. The treble spill will be nicer though than you'd get off some snare mics but your drummer will need to watch the hihat volume.
Are you thinking crotch mic, or single overhead?
If so try the Glyn Johns 3 mic setup first.
But yeah, my go-to is Glyn Johns (plus snare if I have 4 channels), usually capturing jazz players who are pretty good at self-balancing.
