Specifically lawnmower purchase imminent. Our Castlegarden ride on mower got its annual service earlier this year. The serviceman said that the deck was in pretty poor shape but that it might see us out for the season. The engine was smoking too and the drive belts are looking a bit worn. The machine was showing its age.
Anyway he proved to be right on the deck part, it failed during the week. A new deck plus drive belts comes in around €1K. With a dodgy engine and suspect transmission [the machine is 14 years old], fitting a new deck would not make sense. I searched for a machine with a good deck and fu**ed up engine but the deck is the known weak element. Lots of machines with broken decks around.
So a new machine is on the way. A Honda HF2417 to be precise. Retailing at €4.6K, I got one for around €4K. The Castlegarden machine sells for €2.1K. The Castlegarden is a lower spec machine than the Honda. In fact a Castlegarden that has the same spec as the Honda, costs the same as the Honda.
I hope this is the last lawnmower I have to buy.
