I was bought one of these for christmas:

https://www.thomann.de/gb/harley_benton_electric_guitar_kit_square.htm

I was curious if anyone else had done one and if so what results did you get?

I will start mine over the weekend. Its going to be interesting cutting it out with a coping saw on the dining table.

My poor wife is still cleaning Sherwood green dust up from the last time I used her dining table for guitar related nonsense.

Reminds me of the HarrySeven Fridge-o-caster.

With the right templates, the spread could be turned into a VOX Phantom style body or a St. Vincent. It might even stretch to an Ovation Breadwinner shape.

I’m debating something like this… maybe carve the top and do sort of rickenbacker combo type thing.

Not unlike a Westbury Standard.  :)

    Is that good or bad?

I was thinking to do the left side like a rickenbacker combo 800

God I love the way they look on the left side.

Nice project although you might want to take precautions when cutting and sanding

    Useful data.

Modulus of Rupture sounds like a Borg character from Star Trek : TNG.

i doubt the body is actually made from that wood, potentially a spec sheet or translation error

I’ve got a half-done HB kit guitar that is also made of Rengas (or so they say)

Have you sprouted any extra fingers yet?

I dare you to leave the body as-is.

How far along have you gotten with it?

Well I could but… it might happen. I can’t decide what to do with it.

As you can see I’ve cut the guitar out.

I decided to do it a bit differently.

I made a scratch plate today

Next up I’ll fill in the rear cavity cover with an off cut.

I think it looks ok… but I’m not sure really.

Oh wow that looks absolutely awesome!

I'm not 100% sure on the scratchplate being the full length of the body, but apart from that it's great. (I really like the colour of the scratchplate and the knobs, it's just the shape.)

I have to admit I'm not sure what you'd change to it to make it any better... it may even just be the angle of the photos. A more straight-on photo of the guitar might well make the scratchplate look perfect!

Mostly I wish I’d left a bit between the pickups

Following the bottom edge, but 10mm further in would probably work nicely.
