Quite a fussy list of boxes to tick though:

  • Must be light -Preferably 7 pounds or thereabouts - Maximum 7 pounds 2 ounces.
  • Rosewood neck - The darker the better.
  • Neck profile - slim or slim/medium. Definitely not chunky.
  • Normal headstock - Not large headstock.
  • Pickups - Vintage/clean/funky - Not hot/souped up or rocky.
  • Working floating trem.
  • Not too keen on sunburst.
  • Don’t mind tasteful light relic and not over fussy re genuine dings as long as they’re not structural.
  • Maximum budget £700. Preferably £4-500.
  • Happy/would expect to be Japanese, Mexican or even an older Japanese quality Squire.
If you have one that fulfils my fussy wants that is surplus to requirements please give me a shout.

The saga continues. Since posting this originally I have acquired and resold a stunning Squire/ JV Strat via the forum, I also managed to source a PRS DGT SE from Kenny’s in Glasgow for a fantastic deal and returned it and so am still looking.

The main problem is finding a great guitar that is light in weight - It is essential that it is a maximum of 7 pounds 2 ounces, preferably 7 pounds.

The reason is a shoulder injury that means I can’t gig with anything above that weight without suffering for several days afterwards.
From experience I know I’m ok with my tele, which is 7 pounds 2 ounces and I also know that my last Strat that I used was 8 pounds 2 ounces and was too much.

I am after a strat or stratalike such as Schecter Nick Johnson or similar, must have a tremolo bar and be capable of producing a funky, clean sound.

    Criteria:

So if you have anything that suits pleas dm me. Thank you

It might be worth considering swapping the body on a Strat you like with one made by Warmoth or similar. They do them in ultra light woods that are not ash or alder. Will blow your budget though…

Thanks but I’d rather wait and just find the right guitar.

  • I tried a Nick Johnson Schecter recently and it would have anchored a cruise ship. If I were you I’d look for a tele thinline
