Melanie Safka has died peacefully at the age of 76.

Who can forget Alexander Beetle  or Brand New Key or her extraordinary performance of Ruby Tuesday, let alone her all-time classic Lay Down (Candles in the Rain)?

RIP.

And "Look What They've Done To My Song". All well known hits. By all accounts she was a lovely human being too. Nice to be remembered that way. RIP.

I only heard one of her songs that really connected with me but I love it.
I appreciate that she wrote it.  It comes into my head at all sorts of times.

    More really sad news.
Here is a tribute video with one of her best songs from Garden in the City.

And the saddest thing under the sun above
Is to say goodbye to the ones you love
All the things that I have known
Became my life, my very own
But, before you know you say goodbye
All the time goodbye, it's time to cry
But I will not weep nor make a scene
I'm gonna say, thank you, thank you life for having been

Seems wrong to give a lol in a tribute thread, but it made me chuckle.

I remember "Brand New Key" and "Ruby Tuesday" - at the time we thought it was just weird, but I got it when I grew up.

    RIP Melanie.
