In my very early years of interest in rugby I could never understand why someone as brilliant as he was at what he did didn't want to do it any more.

I grew up worshiping the name but he retired too soon for me to say that I ever saw his skills. Certain parallels with George Best in terms of skills and life after the game.

Legend. I and a mate did chat with him in the City Arms in Cardiff once… something about touring Canada as my mate’s Canadian.. he was often to be seen out on the town.
