Just need to work out the best place for the Tremolo Arm . . .
To the RHS mimics the Jag/Jazzmaster but to the REAR is better in terms of mechanical efficiency . .

Should have it sorted soon . .

Id just like to point out that, despite all the video and DNA evidence, it genuinely wasn't me, your Honour  !

  • Looks interesting. Let's hope you avoid the arm and collet rubbing on the strings like the new Guild Surfliner does!

Just checked the Surfliner out and the chap reviewing the Guitar pointed that very issue out . . .

If your going to pivot the Plate, off centre then your asking for trouble . . as I mentioned above to the RHS mimics the Jag/Jazzmaster assembly but staying on the centre of the Plate, but behind the screw that tensions the Tremolo is way better in terms of mechanical efficiency . . it also stays in position better  . . .

Very neat. I think it would look, and most likely work, best with the arm socket halfway between the bridge and the string anchor, and on the centre line.

IMO, the spring and mechanism should be along the centre line, between the D and G strings. This would oblige the arm and collet to be off-centre, between the B and E.

I'm fairly sure there's enough space between the spring and the string anchor to fit the arm collet on the centre-line as well - in fact, right about where the existing hole in the plate is, or a little further back.

Our Laser Dept. is running flat out this week so I'll have to sneak my little Hybrid Plate in next week sometime when its a little quieter. Im trying to keep and machining or additional holes down to a minimum but the 2 holes at the rear of the plate were compromised so Ive had to reposition them elesewhere, plus I'm looking at 2 more fixing holes as the stock Jag / Jazzmaster Trem has 6 x fixings . ..

The Plate that is eventually fitted to my Squier Mustang will have a shot blasted finish . . .  I was thinking of fitting it to my Jagstang, but on balance, Ill keep that as it is . . I like that fact that the Jagstang Bridge is fixed . . . Ive used the Jagstang at Band Practice and its quite a versatile little guitar . . .

100% yes  . . .  once I'm happy with the outcome, I'll have a few made, maybe 10 . . . the plate is the easy bit really . . I've had to buy a cheap Chinese Jaguar Style style Tremolo to harvest the Trem Arm, the Collet, the Backplate and the Spring assembly . . it was £18 off eBay . . . .  The plates will be shot blasted and I'll sort out any countersinking etc.

This is my second bash at the Tremolo . . . it works well and operates quite smoothly but I've sold my Mustang's now and I dont really want to fit it to my Jagstang as it will most likely devalue the guitar . . .

Ive got enough spares to make one more so if theres a guitar builder / hobbyist who wants to make me an offer for this one or the other ( without a Tremolo Arm ) then I'm all ears :-)
