so, Ive been looking for a really nice tele style for about 3 years.... Im picky.
I wated Ash body and Maple neck - and a lot of production teles are now pione or alder, not ash or alder.
2nd, I like wood grain. I dont like block colours. Now I dont need a flame maple top of course, but a translucent finish with some grain on the body, or flame in the neck is what I wanted.
i wanted an early 50s style sound - broadcaster rather than tele if that makes sense.
I dont like U or D shaped necks, meaning most CS 50s tele arnt any good either.
Now - recently Peach got a couple of 50s teles with Deep C, or oval C necks, so I thought a trip might be worth while. they also have a tom Anderson ticon, which has the same neck profile as my P90 loaded cobra-S (my favorite guitar currently). this is the main stumbling blocks so the TA might be right.
Most LSLs are now pine, and GG didnt seem to want to help with a custom order - and with a custom you never really know what your going to get. Xotics are few and far between with less having the right mix.
HOWEVER, i found this at the weekend online, and as it happens I was only an hour out of my way home from where I was working today, and I finished early. Fate? Possibly. However a trip to Music Street in Huntingdon (not somewhere I was aware of - though the lineage if from Machine head of years gone buy - as is world guitars). THIS is lovely - not QUITE sure on the PUs yet, I may been something a little more broadcaster (more mid range in the bridge) - but its stunning, feels great, is light at 6.1 lb (my back will thank me for any weight loss).
Nitro finish - which Ive never had, and a UK builder.... Great "today only" price, £1k cheaper than the Anderson and at least 1.5k to 2.5k cheaper than a CS.
