PRS McCarty 594 Singlecut SE...Is it smaller than a Gibson Les Paul.?

If so,by how much,I know it has a 10 inch Fingerboard Camber..

Any other observations / comparisons would be appreciated..

I have Gibson Les Pauls already ,but the PRS looks beautiful..

Any idea where the new ones are built..?

Any actual users on here..

I had a PRS SE Soapbar in Greenburst about 16 years ago..
It didn't get much playing and I found the neck made me tired,it was like it was designed to make it uncomfortable to grip..
I know that obviously wasn't the case, but it was a real case of that for me..

That was a double cutaway and a 25 inch scale length with a 10 inch camber..
This is a 24.6 basically..I imagine you won't be able to bend as far on it with a low action..?

It may not make a minor third on the high E at the 12 fret ,12th fret to 15th fret bend..?
Some guitars do if the frets are nice and level..

What about the sound of the pickups..?

    Have you Googled any reviews?

This one from Guitarist’s Dave Burrluck is very comprehensive and answers a lot of your questions.

I've had 2 core PRS 594s and couldn't bond with them like I do a Gibson Les Paul. They don't feel as nice to play and don't have that sound. Something about the PRS high gloss finish just doesn't feel as warm and homely as the Gibson Custom Shop VOS nitro.

Just from the first post I don't think you will like them.  Too different.

Thanks for that,it seems to do a lot right from the review..

    Feel and Size are important..
I'm a big guy and some guitars look like a Table tennis Bat on me..
I've always fancied an SG,but I would Dwarf the thing..

I do all of my playing even when playing out sitting down now,,but I want to change that again and build up to standing up again....

My Gibsons are not Custom Shop..
My Cousin's one is a really nice guitar but I prefer the 60s neck on my Noughties Standard and Noughties 1960 Classic..
I like the Classic more,Plain top..It originally had hot ceramic pickups,it now has Lollar Imperials....
My Desert Island with Electricity,Les Paul..
I have a Satin Black Junior that writes songs for you..
    What a Rock Rhythm sound,..

I have other stuff but hate Floyd Roses and other locking trems..

I do love Teles and Strats with more modern neck carves,I love the Performer Strack necks and the American Special ones before that..,I move the volume control on Strats as they get in my way.,I love my Eastman 386 335 alike. and my Korean fat necked Guild S100's,
you don't feel it after 5 seconds,it is difficult to describe..
Feck this neck is big, then that disappears..

I have heart problems etc..Heart attacks and operations..
Still here though and so are guitars..
    Sorry to mention it..

    But

I feel the weight of my 10 lb Standard now..
I don't want to part with it though..
I love that guitar,it kind of plays me at this point..
Had it nearly 20 years, same with the Classic..
I can keep it in the House and play there..

  • I like 594s but they are much more polished and polite than “proper” Les Pauls. They feel, play and sound different to me.

Is it similar to a SC 245? If so I could very easily answer that question.

The 245 has a slightly shorter scale than the 594, but I don't think they've changed the body size or shape.

The PRS is thicker, heavier, and wider — by about half an inch. The neck is fatter.

Mine was made by Cor-Tek in Indonesia. It’s well made, I had to do practically nothing to get it to play comfortably.

The pickups are wonderful for crunch. AlNiCo V with DC resistances of ~9 and ~8 ohm. Chords sound full and satisfying with 10s — I don’t think I would bother with 9s on this due to how easy bends are on a scale this short. Clean sounds maybe not that great, but nobody is perfect.

The fat neck is, to me, the best part of the guitar. I play the blues.

I can't comment on the SE, or the 594....so I should shut up lol but I have compared the Core SC58 with my Gibson Custom Shop.

The body size are slightly different, a Gibson doesn't go into a PRS case or vice versa, the shape is slightly off.

But the sound, they are in the same ballpark and if you play it in a blind test with a bunch, I doubt people can tell.

The company delivering it will sned you a nice invoice which you will have to pay before you can collect it.  And make that 23%, not 20%.

They will either email you or send you a postcard with a link to pay it online before delivery.  At that point the guitar will be in the local depot, sitting there until it is paid.
