NGD Epiphone Dot

What's Hot
DeadmanDeadman Frets: 3971
edited February 17 in Guitar

Rare day for me, but I really needed to scratch the itch I had for an older MIK Dot. I can see what all the fuss is about, can’t get over how well set up it is even after all these years of zero use. Not one buzz, rattle, loose jack, etc and the action is super low.

Made in 1999, poor guy bought it brand new and never learned how to play it. I reckon it’s been played more in the last 24 hours than it has in its entire life. It’s still virtually brand new. I dig the cherry burst too, not as common as the usual flavours.

It’s a bit strange tbh. Not what I’m used to. Narrow at the basement but feels a bit girthy further up. Not a complete handful though and still very playable. Probably 12” radius I’m guessing.

Interesting. I'd love a 335 style semi hollow but prefer a chunky neck.

Nut width as I thought is 43mm by the way. Just noticed that the protective film is still on the pickguard ‘E’ badge too, lol.

I forgot to add I was a bit concerned it would feel a bit clunky and toy-like as I owned a new Casino a few years ago and passed it on very quickly for that very reason. This feels in no way the same. It’s a properly built machine.

That cheery burst is lovely. My wife has a black epi dot, it's lovely but has a really tiny neck. I don't think it's as old as yours and the burst really sets yours apart too! Happy new guitar day.

    Nice.
I had a MIK dot and really was beautifully put together and finished.
Although I had to file the nut slots as the strings were sitting too high at the nut, which made a massive difference, as did changing the pick-ups and wiring loom…big improvement.

  • I had a red MIK Dot a few years ago and sold it like a fool.

Thanks guys, I’m gonna treat it to a change of strings and darken/nourish the fretboard and micromesh the frets this weekend. Sounds immense, I have to say.

These are lovely guitars. I got the 339 because I’m a little guy — so fortunate that there’s more than one size to choose from!

What do you think of the pickups? Mine are nickel covered as opposed to the typical low-end chrome humbuckers I’ve had on other Epis. And they sound beautiful.

Nice! I have  A 1998 Korean Dot , it’s an excellent guitar and the pickups sound great.

I’m only playing through my Spark mini at the moment @Yorkie so everything sounds good  =)
Seriously though, nothing sounds a. Ice picky, harsh or b. Woolly. So I’m a happy camper.

I bought my friend one of these when he wanted his first electric guitar. He loved if. He had it 16 years, and only sold it last year to buy a nice strat,

To be fair, it is an amazing Strat. And, as lovely as the Epiphone was, the Strat was a big upgrade.

    I sold it to him

Was one of the three best guitars I’ve ever owned.

I let him have it for less than half of what it was worth, he’s a great friend, known him since school.
