Continuous GAS. Ibanez AFS75T? Worth a punt?

What's Hot
I spied a red one, decent price, hardcase and stand etc. I used to have the AF75, but I found the thicker/deeper body hard to get used to. I also had a Joe Pass Epi, same problem.
I had an AFS75 last year for a while, and what I did like was the thin body, and the light weight. That model did not have a tremolo unit.
I have an Epiphone Casino, so not too sure if I would be covering the same ground with an AFS75, as it is a hollowbody. Pickups are humbuckers in the Ibanez, so obviously different sonically. Could be tempted to put some filtertron style pickups in to turn it into a poor man's Gretsch.

In my experience with these, they make lousy Gretsches but they’re absolutely wonderful guitars. Really well built, the pickups are much more interesting than the standard PAF mudbucker efforts in most HB guitars and the trems work very well.

One part of me is thinking “it’s just another guitar with humbuckers” but with the trem and thin hollow body, it
could lead to some nice tones etc

I’m not a big humbucker fan, you might have picked up on that  :3

I’ve had two of these and played a few others and they’ve all been great. The first one I got in a trade, because it was really pretty basically and I was going to replace the pickups with some P90s because ‘I knew’ I wouldn’t like them. That was right up to minute I plugged it in and was very pleasantly surprised.

I’m also very rarely in the majority opinion, so your mileage could vary hugely

I’ve had three. They’re fabulous beasties.

  • I had a black AFS75, lovely neck but the tailpiece was ugly. I should have stuck a trem on that one

  • I had one too, they're great guitars.

One thing to bear in mind, I found that the selector switch sat directly under the bigsby bar and was hard to reach if the bar was forward.

It's something you might get used to.

I had both the deep and shallow body versions ... great guitars ... don't sound like rockabilly guitars unless you put lower output pickups in mind.

Yeah, which is why I have been looking at (more expensive) the Guild Starfire III which seems to have the pickup in the right place ! :)

The shallow body was definitely more comfy for me. A wide neck profile too from what I recall.
