I have wanted a black les paul custom for as long as I can remember, my earliest memory is James Iha with one. They have always been out of my budget, and even more so these days. I've had a few Japanese Tokais, a goldstar and two es guitars. I've still got one ES120 and the build quality has always knocked me out.

This came up for sale relatively nearby, so i messaged the seller and met up with him this morning. Swapped my Fender American Special Strat in oly white for this plus a bit of cash his way. He loves the strat, and i'm chuffed with this one. I need to give it a set up later on. I know it's a keeper as my partner wants to hang it in the hallway.
I know it's not a full fat premium model, i'm not fussed about nitro or an ebony board. Given that this is about half the price of some of the Epiphones listed for sale, this was a steal.

I would love to change my username, but I fully understand the T&C's (it was an old band nickname). So please feel free to call me Dave.

    Congrats on your 'new' Tokai

It is hard to beat 'MiJ Quality' for the price
ok, I am biased with 11 Fujigen made guitars in the collection

Yeah I'm with you on the Japanese stuff. I will probably pick up an fgn tele at some point.
I did look at the fgn les paul custom, but this was to good to pass up!

There is no 'H' in Aych, you know that don't you? ~ Wife

Turns out there is an H in Haych! ~ Sporky

Some years ago I had a Tokai 'LP-Custom' too - I've sold it to get more FGNs
didn't like the high bridge, compared to my first FGN LC-10.
The neck angle on the FGN is significant flatter, which means the bridge is lower

Ah see I quite like a high bridge. I usually raise the stop piece quite a bit. Let's the strings ring a bit more, and I don't feel as paranoid about the bridge collapsing.

Cheers. It sounds pretty special. I think im going to replace the pots with a flash wiring loom, but that's about it. I've been reliving my teenage guitar hero dreams.
