FS Sold JB “TeleGib” Build, Kemp/Jem-esque Swamp Ash body blank, Iron Gear Hot Slag loaded guard

DrBobDrBob Frets: 3021
edited March 2 in Parts £
The “pile” has gotten wildly out of control again, I was counting off the unfinished repair/modding/build projects to long time confidant and if we’re being honest, enabler @guitargeek62 the other night and as we rolled into double digits with more still to go I realised this is probably getting out of hand.
I have too much and I’m just not getting through it so it’s time to clear the decks

1. Jeff Beck TeleGib tribute build (in bits)

I thought I’d bought the parts for this last year but I suspect it may have actually been 2022..

It had already been built as a TeleGib relic. I originally bought just the body but subsequently bought the pickups, guard and loaded control plate as well. Not sure what the wood is but it is real wood, pretty decent medium/heavy-ish weight body. Update weighed it by standing on the bathroom scales and then picking up the body (fully loaded) and with the caveat that I’m not sure how accurate that is it looks like it’s 2.6kg
Also neck pocket is 56.1mm wide.

The original routing looked like it had been done with a crack fuelled Beaver, I did what I could to tidy it up a bit but there are places where if you went any further you would see it outside the bridge/pickup surrounds

I had to cut down a full size Tele bridge plate (twice, I ballsed up the first one) as a Wilkinson “Shorty” bridge is a hair to short to cover the pioneering router work of the original owner and look, I even put a set of them lovely Gotoh InTune saddles on it !

Like I said I bought the loaded control plate and the pickups with it. They were sold to me as working and I’ve no reason to doubt that but as the guitar has never been built up and working I can’t confirm it. Would probably suggest keeping the plate and the knobs but maybe replace the electronics as they are deffo budget grade.
Managed to source a couple of non angled pickup surrounds for flat top guitar so that’s a bonus as well !
It’s got the string ferrules, it’s got the strap buttons, It’s got a jack and jack cup. You would maybe need to scavenge around for some screws and stuff but it’s pretty much all there.

I like this neck it’s very much my kind of thing, acquired from the generous and similarly afflicted @paulnb57, neither of us are totally sure of brand. I’m going to say it feels “Mighty Mite” level in terms of build quality.
Maple, Maple, 9.5” rad, Medium Jumbo frets.

Frets are in good nick

It’s a Chunky boy, 23.9mm deep at the first fret going up to 25mm at the 12th. When it arrived with me it had a bit of “George Hamilton” esque orange nitro finish so I had that off with some Acetone so it could do with something on it to finish it
it’s got a couple of little dinks & marks on the headstock but nothing too tragic and mercifully the back of the neck is ding free as that’s a real turn off for me

I’ve got a set of Kluson-alike tuners that I’ll chuck in if you like, I do also have a string tree, neck plate and screws.

One point to make is that as it’s 22 fret it does clash a bit with the neck pickup

You could leave it as a 22fret neck, I think you’d just need to take a couple of mm off of the overhang

So, it needs a bit of tidging, sanding and screwing down

Price ?

I’m thinking

Body plus all hardware and electronics £65 plus p&p

Neck plus tuners, string tree, neck plate & screws
£75 plus p&p.

Take them both and I’ll do postage

Deffo want to sell the body, could do with selling the neck

Swamp Ash “Kemp” shaped body blank

Am actually at a loss as to when the seeds of this “genius” plan started ..

For reasons that are no longer clear I either bought or was the winning bidder on a couple of routing templates from Kemp Guitars. Not really sure what I was thinking it’s not normally my kind of thing at all. I think I had some weird idea about building an “Esquire” version of a Kemp/Blackmachine type of guitar so I bought a lovely lump of Swamp Ash for £70
And then I sold the templates to a guitar building buddy and paid him to cut the body blank out. And it’s lain dormant for at least 4 years..
Because I’m a clumsy mug I’ve put a couple of little marks on it. This is why I can’t have nice things …

I reckon you’d lose the one on the edge with a round over and maybe that one on the horn would steam out ?
It would work better with a 24fret neck, you could do it with a 22 but it would push the bridge a bit further back than usual

I reckon I’m probably £150 in on this but appreciate it’s super niche so

£60 Ono plus p&p

3. SOLD ! F Spaced Iron Gear Hot Slag on single ply black guard plus volume pot, and PINK KNOB

Title says it all. Iron Gear Hot Slag pickup on a single humbucker, single ply Strat pickguard. It’s wired to a 500k full sized pot with flying leads to connect to jack & bridge earth. Basically as long as your Strat has a humbucker route you can go full EVH with 3 solder connections. If the
pink knob is a no go then I deffo have white and maybe black

£25 plus p&p

Trades ? I could use a Bass combo, Orange Crush 35 bass/Fender Rumble, maybe an older, smaller Ashdown or Hartke but unless you are local to Glasgow postage makes that a no go
