Yamaha FG-180 with a snapped truss rod

Anyone had experience with swapping out a truss rod on an old FG-180 ?

I'm curious to know if there's a less invasive way than taking the whole fingerboard off (partly to save the customer money, partly to make it easier for me   )

This is a picture of a similar Yamaha acoustic with the board off, any idea if the 180 is the same?

If it is it might be possible to cut back a bit of wood at the nut end to expose some thread, or remove some of the body end fingerboard to get the rod out.

Any information gratefully received.

If it's snapped at the nut end and there's enough thread left to get it back on, you should be able to cut back the wood and set the D-plate a bit deeper in. I've had to do that on a couple of guitars - it's a tricky job, but still much easier and less invasive than taking the board off. One was a 1972 Les Paul Custom...

If there's not enough thread left, Stew-Mac sell a re-threading tool, but it's expensive.

It's snapped flush with the plate, so I'll do a little digging and see if I can find some thread.

I've got the Stewmac truss rod rescue kit which you're welcome to borrow?

I've even used it on a Les Paul Custom!

I seem to recall that many repair shops refused to do neck resets on this era of Yam acoustics, due to the type of adhesive used being pretty much impossible to budge by any regular means. I would presume the same sort of adhesive would be used for the fretboard as well, so could be problematic.

Yes, some sort of epoxy. The damage done getting the board off in that first photo shows the problem.
