No-one will be surprised that I was browsing Reverb for Telecasters earlier (I don't have funds right now, so no NGDs for a few weeks).

I found what looked to be an absolute beauty - a Japanese Tele Custom in trans blue:

. . . but sadly I know that the placement of the "Fender" and "Telecaster" on the headstock would bug me every time I saw it.

I can’t think of one guitar that that shade of blue looks good on.

It’s like those nasty bursts on Les Paul’s that are purple or some other colour that literally doesn’t suit the guitar.

I don't know Tele decals well enough perhaps, but isn't that fairly standard positioning? I suppose given the body binding I might expect it to say "Fender Custom Telecaster", but I don't know if they all said that.

I have exactly the same guitar , in the same colour, and it's wonderful.

When I'm playing it I can't even see the decals.

Headstock logo doesn't bother me at all (I couldn't tell you what the logo script or position was on any of my Fenders).
Not a fan of the transparent blue though, would be much nicer in lake placid blue.

The decal is positioned perfectly for that model. It looks like the old Jerry Donahue one.

Custom Telecaster, but yes, pretty much. In the page below it says "the very first Custom models in mid-1959 may be found with a regular Telecaster decal without any "Custom" mention".

Here's another example - it's way flashier than a Telecaster ought to be, but as something fancy as a centrepiece of a collection I wouldn't hate to own it.

However, I don't like the cutaway and the colour of the back is horrible to me.

The good thing is it saves me spending nearly £2.5k on a Telecaster - I could buy at least four Player Teles for that

I've got a new one

I decided the other day (just as my savings matured and I have lots of money in my account) that I've got enough Telecasters for now.

Nevertheless the urge to spend is strong (my Christmas money was always gone as soon as the shops opened) so I looked at Jazzmasters again.

There's a fabulous American Pro JM on Reverb in Mystic Sea Foam Green, which I've considered buying before, so I had a closer look at it.

The curve of the headstock on the left of the picture is all over the place to my eye, so it's a no from me as I couldn't be arsed to sort it out and respray it (though that would get rid of those chips at the same time).
