But actually, keep it. I think the 90's is cool again right now.
Any colour other than white would be less obvious really.
I'd probably just live with it though.

To try to do it by working between the frets in situ would theoretically be just about possible by scraping with a razor, but the skill required to do it without ending up a total mess (i.e. much worse than the original inlay) would cost as much as the "proper" partial refret approach.
