What do I want for my birthday?

What's Hot

I’m not all that big on presents.

My wife and family don’t buy Christmas presents for each other except for kids and typically birthdays are just my wife and I exchanging gifts.

It’s my birthday on Wednesday and my wife is completely stumped as to what to get me.

I used to be very easy to buy for but I now get books on Kindle, music from Spotify, games digitally, TV / Films from Netflix etc.

That leaves clothes, running stuff and music bits. I have loads of clothes and running stuff already.
I have stacks of pedals, cables plectrums etc.
I'm currently over weight so I don’t really want sweets and things

The only music things I can think of are a short scale bass (which would be too expensive) a DS-1W which I’m not super bothered about but I do have most of the other Wazas.

Any ideas?

I could say “Don’t bother”, but she wants to get me something.

Sounds like an experience or similar is in order. What about a promise to go to a gig away somewhere and have a nice meal out and a hotel stay?

I'm pretty sure the answer is Lego.

That's a nice idea. We are going to a fancy restaurant on the day.

When my neighbour got to the point of having everything he needed he asked for malt whisky. At Christmas he accumulates a supply which lasted him until his birthday, and vice versa.

A bit late to book John Lee.
Old, overweight and badly maintained. Unlike my amps which are just old and overweight.

Hey it’s my birthday on Wednesday as well! I have similar issues, don’t need much and what I do want is expensive.

I’ve got 10 bottles of whisky in the cupboard as I have pretty much stopped drinking alcohol. Might have to start up again in retirement.

You can get that for free at the doctors if you mention a prostate issue.

It's not really a present if she's charging you for it!

Probably about a hundred quid or so but could be a bit more.

I'm having similar difficulties with my birthday later this month.

Usually I fill up my Amazon wishlist with stuff that will annoy my inlaws but I can't even be bothered with that this time.

find someone who is a quality running training coach and have your wife pay for the monthly fees for a period, may help you elevate your running game.

i had a personal trainer for a short while a few years ago just to keep me consistent.

If you like gardening, then I'm a huge fan of plants - tree's/roses/rhodies/etc. Something you can keep for years and will be a constant reminder of a gift.

If you like running, I’ll race you for £100 :)

I can't help about the shape I'm in, I can't sing I ain't pretty and my legs are thin

But don't ask me what I think of you, I might not give the answer that you want me to

I’d go with the don’t bother option. It’s what me and the trouble and strife do for every occasion.

Much less hassle, within reason we have/are able to buy the things we need as and when, critically. with a joint bank account I wouldn’t want her wasting my/our money on tat I don’t want and I’m sure she feels the same!

But from what you’ve said option B from me - if you don’t have plans to get one yourself, ask for some money towards the short scale bass. Start a saving fund for it. Maybe next birthday/Xmas she can contribute a bit more.
