No drum section so ....guitarists, what are zildjian zxt and zht chinas like?

Or indeed anything else I should be looking at around 100 notes for an 18"

Tell me about it- I'd love to see a drum section.

I bought a Meinl Byzance unlathed china for £120 off ebay (£300 retail).
There are a lot of bargains out there.

Not a massive fan of the cheaper Zildjians- the A Customs are good, if a bit modern sounding- depends on what you are shooting for.
Also check out Istanbul and Bosphorus.

The low end Zils are generally shit.

If you are looking at budget stuff Stagg massively punch above their weight.
Of the big brands you are better off going Sabian.

We can make a drum section if anyone will use it. I'm not sure anyone did on the old site.

  • I have a stagg myra crash, which is their hand hammered range, not sure about the DH / SH range though. From what i;ve read good ones are awesome but therres also some duds about.

    Anyone got thoughts on Meinl?

I have one of their cowbells and it's very good.
I think they generally have a good rep. Usually the companies that aren't in the big three have to offer better value to survive.

  • @koneguitarist Well luckily after researching on the internet I've found out that zildjian chinas are like brass coloured circles of metal, you screw them to a metal stand and then hit them with a stick to make "music". Clearly far more primitive than even a basic acoustic guitar.

  • So in other words a couple of levels down from a pianist, as they hit things as well but have to be more accurate due to smaller targets.

  • I think a pianist is only one step up from a "DJ" after all they're just essentially pushing buttons.

Meinl Byzance are my favourite cymbals.
I have a mixture of Meinl and Zildjian A's and K customs.

I'm planning on replacing the Zildjians with Meinl's over time.

  • The Byzance china is more than i'd like to spend but they seem to have loads of other one's, heard anythign about their other ranges?

Im looking for something hard wearing rather than being prissy about the sound, as long as if goes pshhh and sounds good when im doing quarter notes over some double bass then im happy :)

What I dont want to do it buy something prone to cracking.

    That's more about technique.

I played with a guy who could easily bust Z Customs and Rudes.
I played with AAXplosions for ages and didn't crack one.

As I said I paid £120 for a Byzance and it has been brilliant.
I would just trawl Gumtree and eBay until I found a bargain- there are loads to be had.
