Regarding actual string gauge, I’ll use 10’s on pretty much everything. They seem a good balance between feel and sound.

What I WILL say is that string brand may be more important than string gauge.

I was a staunch Rotosound user for many years for many reasons. Many people dislike them. I don’t.

My most recent guitar felt amazing upon delivery. Very slinky. Very smooth.
I rang the shop to ask about the strings used after putting Rotosounds on it when the originals were dead (which took ages) and them feeling horrible in comparison.

    Elixir Optiweb.

Revelatory to me. I’ve used them in the past and the wound strings used to get furry, but not anymore. They sound great, feel great and last for ages. Expensive, but well worth a try.

Definitely worth the extra £4-5 per set over some Rotosounds which now feel coarse and nasty in comparison.
