It's about £520 including all taxes and shipping.

    I'm quite tempted.

Well, the control cavity is more generous than it needs to be. Probably space for a PP3 and a Stingray two-band Baxandall EQ.

My recollection is that the Asian-sourced Sterling-by-Musicman pickup is nothing special - with or without active electronics.
You say, atom bomb. I say, tin of corned beef.

The previous iterations sold for upwards of $2000.  I don't get how this suddenly goes for below $500.  It's a legitimate deal but what's the catch?

You know how some strats are 2K and others are 500 because they are made in different countries from different woods and stuff?

    That.

Also - the 2K stuff is taking the piss.

At that price you could afford to have it painted so it looks not-awful I s'pose.

The amusing thing is that the USA built expensive version was in itself a copy of a cheap pile of arse that was owned by Vulfpeck boss Jack Stratton and often used by Joe Dart for recording.

It might be the only time a signature model has been made based on a really cheap nasty instrument.
Now we have another cheap one based on the expensive one, based on the cheap one!

I'm wondering if I can get away with it.

This year my kids have 18th and 21st birthdays, and my mum hits 80.

    Going to be expensive!

Ah thanks. Ive changed the thread title to match. I'm not a bassist or Ernie Ball fan so I wasn't even aware of this.

    Its not £200 postage.

    It's: £110.36 Shipping, £89.60 taxes, and £29.88 duties.

Paying VAT and duty on the item and shipping applies to everything outside the UK.

I thought it was quite reasonable for international insured shipping. Actually pretty cheap.

Yeah that's reasonable shipping these days. I've paid 150+ a couple of times since 2020

Yeah, it's a big, heavy, fragile object being posted a long way.

£553 at checkout, I’m out - I’ll make my own for less than that instead!

Yeah - the SB14 Passive is effectively a Joe Dart bass but without the name. They are about a grand new, so probably £600 ish used.

I'd rather get one of those. For a start it has a bridge that isn't made out of paper.
