Or...you can just install a pretty damn decent AI (like Llama 3) locally, and use less power than that light bulb you leave on all the time.

(admittedly, this doesn't take into account the cost of training new models, but that's a cost that's unlikely to increase too much compared with the increase in adoption)

every time someone shows me something saying "look i only had to type in some insane newspeak nonsense and the ''A.I'' did this" it's some fucking bullshit that makes me feel sad and awkward. and it's never a woman saying that! isn't that interesting? anyway i can't wait for it all to fuck off

Also 23,000 households is about 0.015% of the total in the US. Residential use is about 38% of the overall total.

So AI is using 0.006% of US total consumption.

Less than 1% of 1%.

Organic life is only a stepping stone to inorganic life. Genuine interstellar civilisations require lifespans in the order of millenia so us squashy meat bags aren't going to cut it. However if our new mechanical masters are programmed by Micro$oft and assembled by Boeing the future may not be rosy for them.

And the other scary number is silly too.

By their claim, in 2026, cars will still emit over 20 times as much CO2 as every data centre combined. They switch in that bit from just AI consumption to everything, which is disingenuous at best, and probably a deliberate attempt to deceive.

Essentially it's a lot of scaremongering about statistical noise. I wonder who's behind it, and what they're trying to distract from.
