There's a few stages set up on First Street near Home Cinema with plenty of bands playing from this morning and throughout the weekend all for free. Worth checking out if you happen to be in Manchester. The festival is usually pretty good at bringing an eclectic mix of performers, so might be something you'd like even if you're not big into jazz.
