Geneva?

What's Hot
Yep, me again, lol.

So apart from riding around the lake, which I will be doing, what's good to do/see in Geneva for a weekend?

Do you always do your research after deciding where you are going?

     :)

I don't know, I did a gig there a few years ago with my wife. Felt pretty damn rich.
We were put up in the outskirts and went for a nice walk. We saw the largest hedgehog I've ever seen, around 30cm!

Of course not, that would be daft. I'm going to cycle the 170km route around Lake Geneva.

I always know the primary reason for my trips, the request is for ancilliary stuff people might be able to suggest that might be fun to do in addition.

Geneva itself is boring and sterile.........some of the towns going around the lake are lovely .....Montreux has a micro-climate,
Evian is pretty.....Lausanne is nicer than Geneva

    I lived in Geneva.
I don't think it is all boring.

    Carouge is lovely. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carouge

Eaux-Vives is nice, you can wander about and look at Jet d’Eau, have a drink or meal by the water.

Les Pâquis is vibrant and busy, good cheap restaurants (a rarity in Geneva).

Champel is leafy and a bit hilly if you want some exercise.

I agree that driving around the lake is more fun than staying in Geneva all the time.

Geneva's like a European city as imagined by an American - we found it dull. Chillon Castle in Montreux is worth a visit but to be honest most of the activities in that area seem to revolve around traveling somewhere else to get a slightly different view of Lake Geneva than you had yesterday.

Apparently you might see a lot of smoke on the water and a fire in the sky

I dont know Geneva well, but i did spend a few months in montreux and the area is great.

Depends what you like and how much you additionally want to travel but:

Rochers de Naye is lovely for hiking or seeing the view of the mountains.

Vineyards of lavaux for a stroll - just be careful if the huts are open as it's very easy to drink and buy a lot of wine.

Grueyere trip, whilst the village is beautiful you can do tours of the cheese factory, normally combines with a tour to the callier chocolate factory.

    Glacier 3000

    Olympic museum in Lausanne

    Chateau Chillon is beautiful

Combine some of those with a wander around montreux (Freddie mercury statute)

If you have a car, then Chamonix and Annecy also in reach.

We went to Geneva for a city-break last September. We did CERN (highly recommended), United Nations, the Botanial Gardens, boat trip, old town walking tour, museums, Jet d'Eau. Lots to do.

During the Summer months there's a free monthly music festival called Funky Sundays...lots of great local bands by the beach, food vendors etc.

Be prepared to spend £££ on food though, it is pretty much £30/head everywhere. The Hamburger Foundation does one called The Bastard which is exceptional...free heart attack included.

Free public transport for tourists too so Trams, Buses, and Water Taxis make getting around very easy.

  • It depends if you're planning a conventional weekend break.
I'll get a round to buying a 'real' guitar one day.

Nothing. Get on the train and go and see those mountains instead.

OK, so I crossed the border into France on my visit, so technically cheating. Into the Void at the top of Mont Blanc! Fook me, it was scary stepping on to that glass platform.
