I don’t think laser treatment works with age related close vision loss, does it?  I think the age related loss is because of the muscles not being able to pull the lens taught enough to focus close up

I can play without my glasses no problem but I can't see a set list. A few times I've drawn out a big set list and taped it to the back of guitar to get over this. Vanity makes me not want to wear glasses on stage but if I need to read anything I have to.

I have varifocus now in normal and sunglasses .... I use goggles4u .... just pick your frames and what kind of lenses you want and put your prescription in and they turn up a couple of weeks later in the post
How on earth do you get varifoclas online given the measurements? I'm really interested as I'm fed up paying stupid money every 2 years

I was wondering the same.  I'll soon be on my third attempt at trying varifocals, and I swear that the optician hasn't measured correctly previously.  It's such a critical part and relies heavily on the fit of the frames, so I can't see how it can work online.

Get your eyes tested in Specsavers or similar and they will give you your prescription. On there is the values needed for close and distance reading per eye.

I chose titanium frames and varifocal lenses and they were £42 delivered. These are the best glasses I've owned, the frames are very thin but so strong and the lenses don't seem to need constant cleaning like glasses I've had from Asda and such.

When you configure the glasses the price will look twice what it is but when you checkout the discount is applied. Sign up before you order as then you get the deals emailed to you and you can track your order. If you just check out as a guest you can't

I stand corrected. Apparently the lens can be replaced. Wow!

As has already been pointed out varifocal lenses vary in price, focal area, and quality. I find I can’t get on with the ones with the smallest focal area so always go up at least one grade. Also, if you’ve never worn varifocals before they can take a little bit of getting used to. Don’t give up on them just because they’re not working for you right away.
I play guitar because I enjoy it rather than because I’m any good at it

Prescriptions won't give the measurements needed for varifoclas as they differ for every single frame, and that's the theoretical problem with online.  My most recent ones by a mainstream I've used for over a decade were binned by them immediately I tried them, they took more measurements and made another pair

Spectacle wearer from 18. Specsavers recommended varifocals about ten years ago. Never had difficulty playing my instrument.

I tend to get larger/aviator style frames so I can see as much as poss at all times.

This. Never had an issue with varifocals from specsavers. Don’t compromise on the cost, you’ll wear them every day in any situation…….

Just picked up my first ever pair of varifocals (Specsavers 'Tailormade' lens).  First impressions are that they are not so difficult to get used to as I had expected and, best of all, they seem to be exactly what I needed from a guitar / live playing perspective.

Stick-on side dots have been removed.

@supes did you get sorted? Varifocals can take getting used to (I felt like I was in drugs walking cobbled pedestrian areas, stairs were a problem,.But got better). I got the best type of lenses I could afford, but "gone cheaper" since I don't have a driving job anymore.

I don't really know what's going on with my eyesight!
This time last year i needed distance and reading glasses but now i barely need any providing it's light enough!

I don't wear the distance glasses, the only real problem i have is reading something "small" at a fair distance. As for reading glasses - during the day, or in a good light, i can read fine. At night i tend to wear reading glasses.

So playing guitar is like reading - unless it's dark i don't need glasses. I can definitely see the strings better with them on, but it's only a slight prescription.

So i'm not really using them much yet to be honest, although i'm sure that time is approaching. I'll be wearing bifocals i think, as i got a "sports" pair that are nice and light, and stay on!

What may have made a difference is i've left work. Work involved staring at a screen 10 hours a day. Since i've stopped that my eyes seem to have "recovered" a little. I know it won't last forever but i'm enjoying it for as long ad it lasts :)

Switch to acoustic. Then you won't need to see as you only use the first three frets. :)

I went to a gig where the guitarist clearly came from a jazz background and played very confidently all over the fretboard. It was only when he had to be guided off the stage in the break that I realised he was blind. Obviously, he didn't need to see the fretboard and, instead of a set list, another band member told him discretely what was coming next.

It's amazing what can be done when there's no choice.

If you get varifocals you can pick how much of each focal length you want.

I have some Occupational Varifocals for work (there's a surprise) that have 2 main areas, The lower for close desktop reading of paper and the higher bit is for looking up at my monitors.

The biggest improvement has been in neck pain and I'm no longer adjusting my body to be in focus with my old glasses. With the 2 large areas they are ace for work.

I will be getting some trad varifocals too later this year.

Hmm, So you distance sight appears to improved (you don't wear your distance glasses much) and your reading sight also appears to be better without glasses than it was before?

Do you still have the same range of vision in your reading glasses, or do you have to hold things closer than before?
