1976 Precision back from the dead

What's Hot
RevolutionsRevolutions Frets: 338
I picked up an old Precision that had seen better days, including being routed for right-handed playing, crap filler job & house paint.

The neck was pretty gnarly, but totally usable, so focused on the body. I was going to strip it & look at sanding flat the filler until I spoke to refinisher who said they could also do a repair, so to send as-is.

    Top sanded:

An incredible job with an infill piece to this:

After a few months' wait, got the body back last week.

I give you a completely not era correct nitro finish in faded OLY.

Absolutely thrilled with how this has turned out. My very own 70s Brian Wilson p bass.

The pickguard needs to discolour to more closely resemble the off-white paint.

Four-ply tort would look nice. Period-correct black/white/black might be a bit too Sidney Viscious.
You say, atom bomb. I say, tin of corned beef.

That’s an off-white guard. The paint is pretty heavily yellowed  =)

Love the off-white guard. Looks 'right' to me... far nicer than corned beef or black IMHO. Plus white plastics don't age the way that the aftermarket "aged" stuff looks - and doesn't age uniformly.

    Great save. :-)

Really nice job there, especially the infill piece to cover the cavity, great project

I'm with Funkfingers - it needs a B/W/B guard, both for historical accuracy and just because that combination looks great...

But it's a very nice job as it is, so if that's how you want it, ignore me .

It does baffle me why anyone would go to all the trouble of converting a left-handed P-Bass to right-handed, when a right-handed P is probably the single most common model of bass ever made, but there's no accounting for some people!

That was my original idea. I’ve put black guards on almost everything over the years, so I’m kinda over that look. Nitro isn’t era correct, and I think white on white looks great on a bass  B)

I love the look of it and also congratulate all concerned, it's just that any pics of left handed guitars make me feel like I'm about to have a stroke.

    It's not you, it's me.
