Paul Jones (Manfreds, Blues Band, R2)

Went to see Paul Jones & Dave Kelly last night.

An acoustic set, full of old blues classics, PJ on vocals/harmonica, DK on vocals/guitar.  Paul Jones has an incredible voice, and the lung power to alternate (mid song) between vocals and harp solos.  Incredible.

It was a 2hr set in a pretty small venue (maybe 150 people there), nice and relaxed.

I looked up how old Paul Jones is ... 82.  Eighty-fecking-Two.  And he can still sing, powerfully and in tune, for 2 hours.

Incredible.

I've seen Paul and Dave in The Blues Band a few times, always great. I saw Paul perform in The Beggars Opera once, excellent from what I remember.

Obviously recall him with Manfred Mann - But loved his R2 Blues Show on the radio 

think he sang with Bill Wyman’s Rhythm Kings  for a while 

great singer

I saw him with The Manfreds a few years back. The voice was still there and his harp playing is amazing!

Saw them at the Six Of The Best concert, Milton Keynes Bowl, 1982.

Nobody lobbed bottles of piss at The Blues Band, I can tell you!

I used to see them at the Marquee. The Dave Kelly band were also worth seeing. Dave gave me a couple of tips on how to play slide after one gig, nice chap.
