I’d say spreading unfounded rumours about somebody being a nonce, is significantly more serious than calling the person who spread the rumours a bellend.  Although you’re probably right, in that it’s best refrain from any personal insults, especially on a thread about libel case.

Spreading unfounded rumours about someone being a nonce, then having to pay them £75k recompense is pretty much the dictionary definition of being a bellend, to be fair.

I turned on 5Live a couple of years ago in the middle of an interview with someone who was clearly a footballer but who came across as lucid and intelligent. I was gobsmacked at the end when they said it was Joey Barton.

Just goes to show that you can't judge a book by its cover. 

It's quite strange that sometimes he comes across like that - he's a big defender of gay rights apparently - but then he does something a bit dim. Like assault someone. 

I don't think he's been a defender of gay rights since he decided to court the Katie Hopkins audience. He's been quite homophobic about women footballers (along with all the other pathetic insults he's levelled at them).

He’s my twitter guilty pleasure. Actually quite intellectual, but also a total wrecking ball so makes you want to see what he does next.

I have read his book and kept an eye on him since then and just can’t work him out. Intellectual but littered with so many bad decisions. You just wonder what the next one will be yet he just cracks on as if it’s normal.

It is a widely held opinion among Rangers fans that he is/was one of their worst signings in living memory.
