New Car Day!

What's Hot
Well. The shit old Beetle that I have been driving around was on a long-term loan to me, and the owner has just sold it. So I needed a car.

I have always fancied a late-80s era E30 BMW - the last time BMW made a good-looking car.

So I drove up to Liverpool yesterday and bought one. It's very, very clean - and a smooth drive. It's got a boring noisy powerflow chav exhaust that I'll get rid of at some point when I have more money.
And, of course, because it's me, it has decided today that it won't start. Hopefully nothing too serious - taking it to the mechanic tomorrow. Fuck fuck fuck bollocks.

Anyway. Here you go. Family photo, as they say.

Top Tip - Simply wear a baseball cap on back to front rather than removing a noisy exhaust.

He traded the Beetle for a microphone.

I want the police cruiser. Is that a Crown Victoria?

That's not the usual way of acquiring cars in Liverpool.
Having trouble posting images here?  This might help.

RE: Drug dealer car - not yet! My general aim is to subvert all the BMW Driver stereotypes and as such call the whole thing a conceptual art piece.

The cruiser is an '89 Chevrolet Caprice. Picked it up at the USAF military police auction. It's an old USAF military police car. They were practically giving 'em away! It's got a cop motor - a 5 cubic litre plant. It's got cop tyres; cop suspension; cop shocks. It's the model featured in the film Terminator 2, so it'll run good with a driver made of liquid metal.

Being in the heart of Norfolk, the ground here is famously flat. I had in fact just tilted the camera to make the image edgy and dynamic like on the cover of Max Power etc. Top tip.

Non-start fault turned out to be a worn ignition switch. There's a knack.

I like the idea of the magazine cover, but I think you've missed a trick there. You could really do with some young bird in a tracksuit with a Croydon facelift draped over the bonnet for full effect. Oh, and a pushchair in the foreground.

Special Brew? Are you crazy? It'd be own-branded high-strength lager, the brewer of which no-one's ever heard of, not anything vaguely 'expensive', and Lambini's the usual tipple round here. You clearly are very posh indeed, and should therefore dress down and go visit some less fortunate areas of the environs to see how the plebs live their lives.

  • Awesome cars, E30s

My Dad had a lovely green one. Most have been dicked about with by now, same as old Impreza Turbos, but looks like yours hasn't though, which is excellent :)

The only major thing I'm aware of on those is cam belts - they have a tendency to shred an engine if they die before you replace em!

My mate has a BMW E30 diesel estate that's nearly done 290,000 miles.

    @chillidoggy - that's reassuring to know! :D This one's only done 90,000. So far.

@stickyfiddle - this is a 318iS, so it's got the 16v 1.8 engine that became standard on the cars that followed in the 90s - it's got a cam chain rather than a belt. Win!
