One of the things that often strikes me when I watch stuff about Pink Floyd was what an extraordinarily good looking young man Dave was. I mean a lot of young people look good but seem unaware of it but he was by a long chalk the good looker in that lot.

Young DG was definitely a great looking bloke, although I must admit I still find him beautiful nowadays but whether that's because he's kind of like a god now I'm not sure.

Yes, the early-mid 70s DG was a handsome young fella. 

Sorry to say he seems to have gone to seed relatively early. 

Was he a smoker who gave up perchance sometime around 78/79? It's just that I recall seeing somewhere some Wall footage, and the bloke seems to have ballooned, a la lots of other fellas I know who were once smokers, gave up and inevitably became porkers.

No, he never smoked cigs at all. I recall an interview regarding this- weed yes, and to this day I believe.

I've seen pictures of Gilmour smoking cigarettes for definite.

I'm pretty sure the whole band smoked in the early days - Waters was often pictured smoking on stage and it clearly killed Richard Wright - not sure about Nick Mason....
