Paint stripper recommendations

What's Hot
I've got a bass body I want to strip back to the bare wood.

Should I get a heatgun type thing or use chemical stripper?

I’m so bored I might as well be listening to Pink Floyd

If it's a modern bass with a synthetic finish then the paint stripper you can buy in the shops won't touch it.

Heat gun is best but take care not to scorch the wood. You'll need to sand afterwards to remove any residue.

It's a modern cheap Ibanez. The finish is thick and hard as a rock.

I don't mind if I scorch it a bit - as sad as it is, I've always liked the fire damaged look!

If it’s got the same finish as my Telecaster had heatgun is the way to go

It’s really easy, just go slowly and start under the scratch plate so if you mess up it won’t show

I am part way through doing precisely this to a Jackson Performer PS2 body.

I have managed to leave the majority of the sanding sealer coat on the rear and sides of the body.

The front features a waffur theen flamed veneer that had been dyed. Sanding and/or rubbing with wire wool to remove the dye has worn through the veneer in a few places.

I need to decide between disguising the goofs under opaque paint or making a feature of them by going for a Rory Gallagher reliced-to-buggery sunburst.
You say, atom bomb. I say, tin of corned beef.

Glen’s Vodka -rough as a badgers arse. If that doesn’t get the paint off, nothing will.
