What actually is matter? It's something that we can describe (to some extent) mathematically, but what actually is it? What is reality? What is conciousness? and how does that happen - something to do with how the matter in our brains is working I guess, and all this quantum stuff must have something to do with it. But will we ever really know the answers? What's going on, what does it all mean? How is it that anything exists in the first place? In some profound way that we don't understand, is existence something that must be? If nothing existed, would mathematics, in some profound way, still exist? ie. would 2+2 still equal 4? Has that got something to do with it?  8-}

I sometime wonder that the weird effects that are seen in quantum physics is a result of a simulation breaking down. i.e. it can only cope with a limited, albeit very very deep, granularity. On the other hand I suspect the human brain's ability to understand the universe is the same as an ant's ability to understand multidimensional calculus!  :-/

FWIW, I personally don't buy the simulation thing - reality is reality, and to put it mildly, there is an awful lot we don't understand about it.

Occam's razor tends to kill the idea we're all living in a simulation stone dead.
Decoherence theory seems about the most plausible way of reconciling quantum theory with everyday experience, complex systems rapidly diverge to the point they can't interfere.
